Meet Yvonne from Imaginations Run Wild Founder of outdoor play sessions

Sowing the seed...

Hi, I’m Yvonne. I’m the creator of Imaginations Run Wild.

I have a degree in modern foreign languages and am a qualified Primary Teacher. I have taught children aged 3-11 for more than 20 years, 8 of which have been abroad in Japan and Spain. My Spanish adventure helped me understand how children gain access to language and stories were central to my teaching.

I started making plastic free story props to support literacy lessons so that children enjoyed a sensory, practical approach to storytelling.

I combined this with my love of the outdoors (especially vital since Covid) and began using the stones in a more active way setting up story trails in local woodland areas. The children were totally enchanted; they were immersed in the stories, connecting with the activities and working on their storytelling and sequencing skills without realising it!

Hey presto. Imaginations Run Wild story and play classes was born.

My second in command...

I’m very lucky to be supported by the wonderful Abbie.

She is qualified as a higher-level teaching assistant, with a distinction, is first aid trained and has lots of experience in Special Educational Needs (SEN).

Does your child have Special Educational Needs?

Abbie and I are passionate about meeting the needs of every child, and with our teaching experience and ethos, our play sessions include everyone.

The physicality of our play and structured approach means our Story and Play Sessions can be perfect for SEN children. We also understand that every child is unique and that it can be nerve-wracking for parents to try something new.
